Poltava is a very beautiful and cozy city, which can be safely called one of the centers of the Ukrainian language. After all, it is Poltava Ukrainian that is considered the purest and the closest to the literary original. And also, in this city there are many wonderful cozy places, architectural monuments, which are definitely worth visiting for everyone who travels to Poltava.
The first place that guests are recommended to see is a white gazebo, which is located on Ivanova Gora. It was installed for the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava. This gazebo is one of the main symbols of Poltava. It offers amazing views of the Vorskla, part of the
the city, as well as two hills: Monastyrskaya and Institutskaya. There is a beautiful temple on Monastyrskaya. Poltava residents often visit the gazebo, especially graduates and young people love it. And this is not surprising, because it is from there that the most pleasant thing is to watch the first dawn of adult life after graduation, as well as to do amazing wedding photo shoots.
The second place worth visiting to understand the soul of Poltava is the Kotlyarevsky Museum. It was opened in 1952. It is interesting that the building in which the museum is located was built according to the drawing of the Kotlyarevsky house, which was made by Taras Shevchenko himself. The museum reproduces very well and interestingly the interiors of the residence of the famous writer and poet. And there are also many documents that help to learn more about Kotlyarevsky's life. The museum has seven rooms. Six of them house exhibitions dedicated to the life of Kotlyarevsky, and the seventh hosts exhibitions of works by contemporary artists.
And after the museum, you can safely go to the Cathedral Maidan. For tourists, this is often a place where you can take pictures with the Galushka monument. And this is a really cute, funny and symbolic monument depicting the crown dish of Poltava residents. But, besides this, the Cathedral Maidan itself is the oldest square in Poltava.
In addition to dumplings, there is another monument on this square - to Ivan Mazepa. Interestingly, it was designed in 2009 and installed only in 5015. This is not surprising, since Ivan Mazepa is one of the most controversial hetmans in Ukraine. Someone considers him a hero, and someone, on the contrary, a traitor. You, however, the monument to Mazepa found its place in Poltava, and became one of the important sights of the city. By the way, the monument differs in that it is the only one in the whole world with Mazepa in full growth.
Behind the monument you can see the Assumption Cathedral. It is an architectural monument of the 18th century and was built in the Cossack Baroque style. By the way, Mazepa, who helped Ukrainian churches a lot, gave funds to cast a bell for this cathedral.
Another beautiful and interesting area of Poltava is Round. It is the historical heart of the city. In the center of the square you can see the Glory Monument, and around the square itself - the Korpusny Garden. It was founded in 1840; the area of this beautiful garden is 6 hectares. The architectural ensemble of the square began to be built back in 1805-1841 and it is one of the largest in our country.
